I again watched five more master class videos, and I’ve taken a lot of notes. Atwood discussed the difference between a closed and open ending. she went into a lot of detail about how engaging the first sentence and first five pages of your book need to be. If you can’t draw the reader in, then you need to do more revision.Atwood also mentioned that sometimes the beginning of her books actually came from page 10, so your first beginning might not always be the right one. She also mentioned the importance of revising your work, and having other people look at your work and give you feedback. Like a sponge i hope to soak in more information/advice from atwood!!Watched five more videos, and I’ve really enjoyed this class a lot. I didn’t know a lot about the structure of writing, and now I’m getting a good grasp. Atwood explained the different writing styles: baroque and plainsong. She gave sage advice about how to overcome writers block, by either taking a walk or going to sleep. She went into detail about dialogue, how dialogue should be used to gain insight into another character, a power play, to be seductive, or perhaps have the character overhear dialogue. The dialogue should also be authentic to the time and place. I’m starting to get ideas for stories, and I’m thinking of doing a bunch of smaller stories, maybe even have them connected to one another. Can’t wait to keep learning from Master Atwood!
